SUMMER 2020 ONLINE TRAINING: Participants must complete ALL hours in order to complete the course and receive a certificate. This summer's course will be held entirely online due to state Covid-19 rules and spacing requirements. Live sessions will take place on from Monday and Thursday evenings from 5pm-8pm (dates: 8/6, 8/10, 8/13, 8/17, 8/20, 8/24, 8/27, and 8/31) and on Saturday 8/22 from 8:30-11:30am and 12:30-3:30pm. The registration cost is $575. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is due at registration. Those who commit to volunteering with MSI will earn a rebate each quarter for up to 2 years (must volunteer with MSI an average of at least twice a month to earn rebate for that quarter- Rebate will max out at $475)

Basic Mediation Training consists of a mix of skill building exercises, practice role plays and interactive presentations (includes both live and asynchronous learning modules).
Each component is designed to provide opportunities to learn and practice the skills necessary to mediate. Including:
· How to listen effectively
· How to ask the right kinds of questions
· How to deal with difficult behavior
· How to help parties communicate
Qualified and experienced observers/coaches provide timely and personalized feedback during role plays. This training meets the standards set forth in Commonwealth of Massachusetts Trial Court Rules and guidelines adopted pursuant to SJC Rule 8b(iv). Mediation is a practice and it takes time to develop your skills, volunteering following training will give you valuable case experience after you complete this course and qualify you under the Massachusetts Gen. Laws c. 233 Section 23C (the mediator confidentiality statute).

Mediation Services works with area middle schools, high schools, and youth organizations to develop and coordinate peer mediation programs, training students in mediation, hold in-house trainings for staff, as well as mediate conflicts between school community members. Education of youth in mediation and conflict resolution helps them grow in confidence in the community and gives them skills for their future.
